My car, The Silver Moose (2000 Saab 9-5 Wagon with a stick) is dying. Yesterday I started getting a "Key not accepted" message on the SID and it's gone downhill from there.
My dad thought we should try and push start it. We ended up hooking it up to his Suburban only to completely freak out every light in the car. This actually broke my hazards and lit up and almost all of the warning lights.
From there we just towed it 25 miles to our local Saab shop (Swedish Imports in Chapel Hill NC, good shop, highly recommend). Yes. We used an $11 Walmart tow rope to go 25 miles. It was fun. Ive always wanted to tailgate a Suburban on the interstate. The hunted has become the hunter. If repairs exceed $1000 we might have to leave her there. Ive had her for a year and she has never given me a problem like this. I hope she makes it.
Good news though: while towing we saw an old e30 on the side of the road for $1800 with 140000 miles and a 5 speed. It's a 325, so the six. Solid candidate for a replacement car if I can get my parents past the fact that it doesn't have air bags.
Post Post message: My mom isn't letting me drive the Dart to school. I have to use her Nissan Puke (Graphite colored Juke with a CVT and FWD). I might die.

Did you try pressing the trunk button on the remote while turning to start? Back when these cars came out in '98, we had lots of trouble with early cars not recognizing keys and this was the recommended hack by the training guys from corporate.

No Dart?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Also, if she won't let you drive the Dart, then good luck trying to convince her to let you buy the E30!

2000 was one of the only model years that had the banana fob and a separate key. The fob has been lost now for a while. I tried it with the trunk button on the door only to find that it stopped working along with all of my central locking.

Is it possible you just have a bad battery? Not that familiar with Saab's but I know bad batteries can cause all kinds of electrical gremlins.

If your parents can afford a Suburban then why are they dumping you with this?
No offense intended...just seems odd. A $1800 E30 for my kid? I'd do a little better than that....

This is the same woman that thought my CB was the reason my car wasn't starting. Big differences in the frequencies. Her mechanical ignorance works in my favor sometimes.

It might just come down to blind luck!

LTZ no less. It's actually a company car (although my dad is a owner of the company and is trying very hard to convince his partner that they need CTS-V wagons instead). I insisted on buying my own car, because so many kids have cars handed to them. My parents are also very cheap. I also bought the Saab for $400 so an $1800 E30 is a step up.

We did a load test and it all seemed fine. I actually disconnected it to see if that would help but nothing.

E30's aren't maintenance free as we think. Any car from the 80's needs work, constant work. Sure, the engine might not blow out on you but things need to be changed here and there.

She drives a Juke. We already know she knows nothing.

Best of luck to you sorting that Saab out! On another note, having a little role reversal on the highway isn't bad every once in a while.

Too bad. Maybe to retire the Moose.
